Role and Perspectives for Biomethane in the Ecological Transition
Biomethane can play an important role in decarbonization in the first place place of transportation, especially blended with commercial methane, but also in other sectors where it is difficult to reduce CO2 emissions through electrification. In a regulatory context increasingly aimed at promoting investments in the production of renewable natural gas, the Bocconi GREEN Research Center has carried out a study aimed at evaluating prospects for and constraints on the development of the Italian biomethane market (in liquefied and compressed form) for the transport sector but not only, by identifying this source as one of the key resources through which we can reduce global and local
environmental impact and take advantage of available domestic resources. This means decreasing foreign energy dependency and increase the security of supply.
The Conference intends to present the results of the research activity undertaken and plan the work ahead for the Observatory on Renewable Gas (OGR, in Italian) which is the natural continuation of this effort.
